Friday: 1st Corinthians 9:19
For though I am free from all, I have
made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them.
I
am free in Christ! But I should still be willing to serve others because that
was the example of leadership that Christ set for me. To lead by example isn't always
to do the best job or be the best at something. We all have gifts that God has
given us but we if we haven’t been gifted with something that doesn't mean we shouldn't ever do it. For instance I am a
very slow dish washer but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't wash dishes. I all
too often chose to serve only at things I enjoy doing but when we have a
selfish motive in it isn't truly serving at all.
Anyways
I feel the theme of this verse isn't truly service; it is the part that says “that
I might win more of them.” That was the reason Christ served to show his love
for us that he would lower himself to such a place to die for us on the cross.
I hope that I might be as loving as He. The reason that I need to serve is
because we want others to feel the love we demonstrate to them. But we know
that we are only able to love because he first loved us. So in essence through
serving nonbelievers we are showing them the love of Christ.
My application: tomorrow during the family
outreach I will focus on serving and loving on the families in the way that
Christ would have. I will spend 5 minutes in prayer tonight so the families
would see Christ through all of my actions tomorrow. Even if that action be
washing dishes the entire time.
